Olaf Schubert Live! Meine Kämpfe [My Battles]
Olaf Schubert’s trademark: a knitted diamond-pattern sweater vest, baggy drainpipe jeans and not much of a hairstyle to speak of. Comedian Olaf Schubert stands by his questionable fashion sense. For the self-proclaimed “shock lyricist”, the comedy is in the detail. He proves this in impressive fashion in his stand-up show “Olaf Schubert live! Meine Kämpfe” [My Battles].
They say there are three things you must do in life: have a child, plant a tree and build a house. You can ignore this traditional measure of a meaningful existence right away. If there’s one thing you absolutely must not fail to do in life, it’s experience Olaf Schubert live! Because Olaf Schubert, the work of art from Dresden who comes across as slightly unstable – whether he’s described as a 'wonder in a sweater vest', 'admonisher and reminder' or simply 'do-gooder and humorist' – proclaims proudly: "Look! These are my battles."
If you’ve had enough of TV nights of cuttingly critical and ironically sarcastic verbal acrobatics full of profundity, peppered with a merciless barrage of punch lines coming at you until you can laugh no more, then Schubert is the right man for you. Olaf Schubert may be different, but restraint isn’t his thing. Schubert’s world harbours a tangled mass of concepts and suggestions for improvement of unimaginable momentousness and horrendous quantities of Schubert-esque pearls of wisdom, which he delivers with messianic gestures, selflessly distributing them to those in need. But the eternal loose cannon remains uneasy! Where other artists offer solutions, Schubert just furrows his brow. After all, he’s got plenty of it and he’s all about giving! With his incredible success, Schubert doesn’t even need to be physically present, with his “self”, at his shows anymore. The fact that he does his audience this honour anyway not only makes him more likeable, but all the more worth seeing and hearing. Schubert once said: "The truth is crooked!" And it’s hardly any wonder that most people who get to experience him live confirm this; after all, they have to learn to stand upright again to make it home afterwards. Almost all those who’ve seen him simply say: Thanks Olaf!
Now everyone can experience his entertaining art and brilliance for themselves. RTL broadcasted his show “Olaf Schubert live! Meine Kämpfe” on February 11th 2012 at 11:15 pm.
