Schlag den Star (Beat the star - German)
With "Schlag den Star", Stefan Raab is serving up a re-imported adaptation of his own hit show "Schlag den Raab" and giving contestants from the audience a chance to square off with a celebrity challenger. The roster includes legendary athletes such as Boris Becker, Stefan Effenberg and Stefan Kretzschmar as well as entertainment icons like Mike Krüger, Wigald Boning and Detlef D! Soost, Tim Mälzer, DJ Bobo, Guido Cantz und Giovanni Zarrella.
Celebrities in "Schlag den Star" have to fight for their honour and reputation and the contestants battle it out each episode to win no less than EUR 50,000. If the star maintains the upper hand in the duel, the jackpot increases by another EUR 50,000 for the next show. Up to nine games in various disciplines determine victory or defeat. An audience member faces off with a star in each of the broadcasts.
From the second season of "Schlag den Star" on, Stefan Raab is passing the host baton to Matthias Opdenhövel. From the third season on Steven Gätjen is host the celebrity edition of "Schlag den Raab". The entertainer himself backs the contestants, jumping in to fight at their side in the duel. The audience member has the option to play Stefan Raab as the joker and let the ambitious and talented all-rounder duke it out for points. And then the name of the game is star vs Raab.
For British broadcaster ITV1, the concept behind the adaptation of "Schlag den Raab" (entitled "Beat the Star") achieved excellent viewership with a market share of up to 26 percent in the second series. The success has been imported as well. The first four episodes of "Schlag den Star" were watched by an average of 17.5 percent of all 14 to 49-year-old viewers between March and April 2009. Four more episodes were broadcasted in autumn 2010 and in autumn 2011.
