Biography
Anke Engelke was born in Montreal (Canada) in 1965.
Between 1979 and 1985, she presented, among others, the ZDF holiday program for children and the daily children’s programs from the Broadcasting Trade Show. She was able to gain comedy experience with the “SWF 3 Gagtory” group. In addition to this, she also hosted television shows for ZDF, S3 and VIVA.
As a singer, Anke Engelke is a member of the “Fred Kellner und die famosen Soul Sisters” formation since 1989.
She was a member of the Sat.1 “Wochenshow” ensemble from April 1996 until May 2000. Every Saturday, viewers tuned into to see Anke Engelke in her numerous roles: e.g. as Ricky on the Popsofa or as the german politician Regine Hildebrandt.
In the film "Liebesluder" (Germany 2000) by Detlev Buck, Anke Engelke impersonated the worthy wife Christine.
In 2000, Anke Engelke played the lead role in "Anke – Die Comedyserie". She plays the charming and witty host of a daily talk show: an amusing glance behind the scenes of the world of television. The second series was launched in May 2001.
In October 2001, Anke Engelke hosted the "German TV Award" with Hape Kerkeling.
Since 1998 Anke Engelke presents the Christmas Gala "Danke Anke" on Sat.1, which attracts up to six million viewers. In May 2002 and 2003, she also presented the homonymous Mother's Day-Show on Sat.1.
With Olli Dittrich, Anke Engelke improvises in the ZDF-production "Blind Date" which went on the air in 2001. The second episode, which took place in a cab, received the "Adolf Grimme Award with gold" in 2003.
From 2001 to 2003, she hosted the ProSieben documentary on the award presentation for the "Rose d’Or" in Montreux.
In January 2002, Anke Engelke presented the first season of her new sketch comedy "Ladykracher". Already in September 2002, the second season of "Ladykracher" started. The "Ladykracher"-team received the "German TV Award 2002" and the "German Comedy Award 2002". Anke Engelke was awarded the "Best female comedian" for "Ladykracher" for the third time. Her sketch comedy was nominated for the "International Emmy Awards" 2002 and was proposed three years in a row for the international TV-Award "Rose d'Or". The third season of "Ladykracher" was broadcasted in winter 2003 in Sat.1.
In 2004 Anke Engelke hosted the "Anke Late Night" Show in Sat.1.
In 2005 she presents for the German ProSieben-Viewers the award shows of "Golden Globes" in January and "The Academy Awards" in February.
In 2006 Anke Engelke went on the air with "Ladyland", which was broadcast until June 2007 in Sat.1.
Sat.1 has been broadcasting the new episodes of "Ladyland" since April 13, 2007 every Friday at 9:45 p.m.
Anke has been providing the German voice for Marge Simpson since January 2007. She also plays in the crime series "Kommissarin Lucas" on ZDF. In December 2007 she was presenting a wacky parody of all Christmas shows on German television named "Fröhliche Weihnachten!" (Merry Christmas!) which was awarded the Grimmepreis.
The fourth season of Anke Engelkes Sketch-Comedy "Ladykracher" is broadcasted from November 7th on in Sat.1. The fiths season is aired in 2009/2010.
She hosted the "European Film Awards" 2009 in Bochum, Germany in December 2009 and co-hosted the Award Show in Talinn, Estonia in 2010.
Once again in December 2009 Anke Engelke and Bastian Pastewka were presenting again the show "Fröhliche Weihnachten!" (Merry Christmas!) in Sat.1.
The sixth season of Anke Engelkes Sketch-Comedy "Ladykracher" is broadcasted from February 2011 on in Sat.1.
In May 2011 she was hosting the "Eurovision Song Contest" in Dusseldorf alongside with Judith Rakers and Stefan Raab. The Final Show was to be aired on May 14th from 9 pm on ARD.
