Biography
Lena Meyer-Landrut was born in Hannover on May 23rd 1991.
In 2010 the then 18 year old high school graduate competed at "Our Star for Oslo", the German preliminary round for the "Eurovision Song Contest" in Oslo and prevailed against 19 competitors. Among other songs, she performed the swing piece "My Same" by the British singer Adele, "Foundations" by Kate Nash and "New Shoes" by Paolo Nutini in the shows. Lena won the preliminary round singing the rhythm track "Satellite", thus ensuring her ticket to the ESC in Oslo.
Immediately following the final show of USFO, her single "Satellite" shot to the top spot of all important download portals and to the top of the single charts. Her first album "My Cassette Player" also found its way to spot one on the German charts as well as spot three in both Austria and Switzerland. Both the single and the debut album achieved double platinum status.
Lena performed "Satellite" in Oslo and brought Germany victory at the "Eurovision Song Contest" for the first time in 28 years. Lena brought the 2011 ESC to Düsseldorf with a gap of 76 points ahead of second place maNga from Turkey and announced she would defend her title.
After the ESC in Oslo the winning song "Satellite" made it to spot one on the Norwegian charts and hit spot one in Sweden, Finland, Switzerland and Denmark as well as in Germany again, making it to the charts in other European countries as well as in Australia.
The TV audience chose "Taken by a Stranger" at the ESC preliminary round in 2011 as Lena's song for defending the title for the ESC in Düsseldorf.
Lena's second album "Good News" came out in February 2011 and also brought her platinum status in Germany. Three songs on the album made their way to Germany's top five on the single charts.
In April 2011 Lena toured throughout Germany: More than 70,000 fans were present at Lena's LIVE tour.
In May 2011 Lena performed "Taken by a Stranger" as title defender at the "Eurovision Song Contest 2011" in Düsseldorf and took 10th place.
In August 2011 Lena sang Matthias Schweighöfer's "What A Man" together with him for the film of the same name, having already met him whilst working together on dubbing the film "Sammy's Adventures" when both were recording the main roles. "What A Man" was not only released as a single, but also came out on the platinum edition of the album "Good News" in September 2011.
Lena could be seen acting in two episodes of "Ladykracher" (Sat.1).
