BRAINPOOL TV GmbH was founded by Jörg Grabosch, Martin Keß and Ralf Günther in 1994 and is today one of Germany’s most successful independent TV producers for comedy and light entertainment. Every year, BRAINPOOL produces almost 320 hours of television programming, broadcast by Germany’s leading entertainment stations including ProSieben, Sat.1 and RTL.

BRAINPOOL collaborates with such stars as Stefan Raab, Anke Engelke, Bastian Pastewka, Oliver Pocher, Christoph Maria Herbst, Axel Stein and Christian Ulmen. “TV total”, "Beat the Star", "Dr. Psycho", “Pastewka”, “Lady Cracker”, “rent a Pocher”, “Stromberg” and “Merry Christmas!” are just a few examples of the hugely successful BRAINPOOL productions that have received multiple national and international awards. To this end, “TV total”, among others, has been the recipient of the “German Television Award”, the Austrian “Romy” television award, “The Bronze Rose de Montreux” and the “Special Grimme Award”. Among other things, “Lady Cracker” has been presented with the “German Television Award”, is the two-time recipient of the “German Comedy Award” and has also been nominated for an “International Emmy Award” in the “Popular Arts” category. In 2006, “Stromberg” received the “Grimme Award” and the “German Comedy Award”, with “Pastewka” receiving, among others, the “German Television Award”, the “German Comedy Award” and the “Golden Rose” within the context of the “Rose D’Or 2006”. In 2007 author Ralf Husmann recieved the "German Television Award" for his skripts of "Stromberg" and "Dr. Psycho". Also in 2007 "Schlag den Raab (Beat Raab)" with Stefan Raab won the "German Television Award". Entitled "Beat your Host" the Show was sold in 13 countries. The show “Schlag den Star/ Beat the star” was just as successful: in a slightly modified form, various celebrities appeared in competition against an unknown challenger in early 2009. Stefan Raab was the presenter.

Between November 2001 and July 2002, BRAINPOOL TV GmbH was a subsidiary of VIVA Media AG. In 2004, BRAINPOOL and music channel VIVA were sold to the MTV parent company, Viacom. As a result of a management buy-out in December 2006, BRAINPOOL is once again independent. The international media group Banijay Entertainment and BRAINPOOL have been participating in a joint venture since July 2009. Banijay Entertainment, with its headquarters in Paris, gains 50% of BRAINPOOL’s shares. Jörg Grabosch, Ralf Günther and Prof. Dr. Andreas Scheuermann will remain in their roles as single-signature CEO shareholders.
