Strategy

The basis of the BRAINPOOL business model is the creation of strong television brands and their systematic exploitation along the entire value-added chain. By issuing one- or two-time broadcasting licenses to the respective station, BRAINPOOL is able to systematically exploit the subsidiary rights in the free-TV, pay-TV, the Internet, DVD, CD and multimedia. Responsible for this exploitation is the 100%-owned subsidiary, BRAINPOOL Artist & Content Services GmbH.
Ancillary rights exploitation
BRAINPOOL Artist & Content Services GmbH offers the artists and television productions belonging to the BRAINPOOL Group all relevant services from a single source, including the exploitation of ancillary rights. The broad range of offerings includes the successful development and marketing of Websites, digital/mobile contents and applications, merchandising/licensing products as well as DVDs, to name but a few. The DVD edition for the television series "Stromberg” received the Triple Platinum Award, becoming the best-selling German-language DVD series ever. The mobile TV channel "Comedyworld” is the first and most-viewed 24x7 comedy station of its kind in Germany, showing the highlights from various BRAINPOOL productions. The www.comedyworld.de online shop markets the broad range of merchandising products, from the Stromberg coffee mug, the fan T-shirts, Langenscheidt’s "German for Bosses” book all the way through to the official WOK WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP wok.
Artist integration
In November 1998, BRAINPOOL founded – with Stefan Raab (Raab TV) – the first of the current six joint companies with its artists. Further joint ventures have been established with Anke Engelke (Ladykracher TV), Oliver Pocher (Pocher TV), Axel Stein (Stein TV), Sarah Kuttner (Kuttner TV) and Elton (Elton TV). These joint enterprises commission BRAINPOOL, as the executive producer, with the execution of production. The rights to the formats produced remain the property of the joint venture.
Newcomer support
Supporting newcomers and scouting for new talent has been a top priority for BRAINPOOL for many years now. In August 2007, BRAINPOOL acquired a 74.9% shareholding in "Nightwash” producer, D’nA-Productions. With this move, BRAINPOOL has invested in Germany’s most established platform for new comedians both in the live and television sectors. Furthermore, BRAINPOOL is hosting – in collaboration with the renowned Adolf Grimme Institute – the regular "GAG ACADEMY”, which offers selected newcomers the possibility of learning, and expanding, the art of gag writing together with comedy industry experts.
