"Schlag den Raab" sold to the United Kingdom, Sweden and Finland
The format of the smash-hit BRAINPOOL production "Schlag den Raab" (Beat Raab) has been sold by SevenOne International to the United Kingdom, Sweden and Finland. Production company Zodiak Television Group has acquired the show concept for local adaptation with its own hosts in the above-mentioned countries. Outside Germany, the format will be marketed under the "Beat your host" title.
In "Schlag den Raab", candidates can compete 1-on-1 with Stefan Raab for breathtaking sums of cash. The minimum prize money is € 500,000. If the host wins, the cash goes into a jackpot; if the candidate is victorious, he or she takes home the cash.
This meant that the prize money in the third edition of “Schlag den Raab” was a staggering € 1.5 million.
But nothing comes easy to the candidates. In up to 15 rounds, the candidates have to give it their all to conquer their ambitious host. Victory or defeat in "Schlag den Raab" is decided in a series of duels covering various disciplines ranging from dexterity, sports, knowledge, daring and also luck. Only those candidates who are both sporty and smart stand a chance of bagging the booty.
In Germany, "Schlag den Raab" has been the most successful new TV show launch of the last three years with a market share of around 30 percent (among viewers aged 14-49). For the very first time, a host competes in his very own show against a viewer! "Schlag den Raab" has already been nominated for a "Grimme Award" and a "Rose d’Or" in 2007.
Zodiak Television World is producing the format in the United Kingdom (Diverse Productions), Sweden (MTV Mastiff) and Finland (T&T Broadcasters), each through their own production company.
