Two awards for BRAINPOOL: “Dr. Psycho” and "Fröhliche Weihnachten" both receive a Grimme Award 2008
Today, the Adolf-Grimme-Institut in Marl announced the winners of the 44th Adolf Grimme Awards 2008. This year, the twelve winners include two BRAINPOOL television productions: in the Entertainment category the Jury pays homage to the crime series “Dr. Psycho” (ProSieben) with Christian Ulmen and to the Christmas show parody “Fröhliche Weihnachten” (Merry Christmas – Sat.1) with Anke Engelke and Bastian Pastewka .
In “Fröhliche Weihnachten!”, Anke Engelke and Bastian Pastewka – alias Wolfgang & Anneliese – present a sensationally wacky parody of all the Christmas shows ever broadcast on German television. Two of Germany’s best and most popular comedians reveal their true transformation talents. The Jury’s comment: “Lightning fast role changes, outrageous comedy, detailed, imaginative and carefully celebrated catastrophes – rarely have commercial breaks been so necessary to get your breath back.”
The police psychologist in “Dr. Psycho” (Christian Ulmen as series hero Max Munzl) has a tough job fighting organized crime in his SWAT team. The die-hard unit lacks manpower and equipment, despite the fact that the “powers that be” seem to ensure that there is money for the squad “shrink”.
The Jury praised the impressive skills of writer Ralf Husmann, the directors’ perfect timing, the fantastic cast and the wonderful confidence of Christian Ulmen’s performance, whose “Dr. Max Munzl” is on a par with “Monk” and “Dr. House”.
The 44th Adolf Grimme Awards 2008 will be presented in Marl on April 4.
