Unser Star für Baku [Our star for Baku] Thomas D new Jury President

Das Erste, ProSieben and the pop and youth radio stations of ARD will continue their successful Eurovision Song Contest partnership in the coming year. Following "Unser Star für Oslo" and "Unser Song für Deutschland", in spring 2012 the search will begin for a new artist and a new song that will represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. "Unser Star für Baku" will be produced by the Cologne-based production company Brainpool.

The new jury president of the ESC preliminary show "Unser Star für Baku" will be Thomas D, one of the most successful artists in the German music scene. Both with his band "Die Fantastischen Vier" and as a solo artist, he has won numerous music awards, among them five "Echo" awards. He has also been encouraging up-and-coming musicians for many years. The 42 year old music entertainer will take over the role held by Stefan Raab over the last few years as jury president and music producer and will head up the jury team in the expert judging of candidates in each show.

Stefan Raab: "I am very pleased that I was able to get Thomas D to be head of the jury. He has all the qualities needed for that role - he is an entertainer, is eloquent and charming, and of course has a vast musical knowledge. I am certain that the young artists in the show will put their trust in him. And he is also even more attractive than me."

Thomas D: "I've always wanted to be president! Being part of this huge music project is a fantastic opportunity, I am really looking forward to it and I take it very seriously. And I am also more attractive than Stefan Raab."

Anyone who wants to be "Unser Star für Baku" can sign up now. Registration forms for the casting shows in Cologne are available at and The best applicants will be invited to take part in "Unser Star für Baku" on Das Erste and ProSieben.

I thank Stefan Raab for his commitment and creativity. Having Thomas D as jury president is a guarantee for great music, and that is the whole point of the ESC."

Thomas Schreiber, ARD Entertainment Coordinator: "Brilliant - Thomas D as the most attractive jury president! 'Unser Star für Baku' offers the greatest prize on German TV - the audience decides who will represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest, and Thomas D will then also produce the winner's first album. I am thrilled about it and am looking forward to working further with ProSieben and the ARD radio stations."

ProSiebenSat.1-TV president Andreas Bartl: "The concept of 'Unser Star für Baku' is a good way of continuing the success story together. Thomas D is a first class choice as jury president and at this stage I would like to thank Stefan Raab once again for his excellent work."

ProSieben CEO Jürgen Hörner: "Stefan Raab has once again demonstrated his great love of the Eurovision Song Contest. With Thomas D, TV producer Raab has gained a first class successor as jury president. A great artist for a great project. I can't think of anyone better."
