Girl power in “TV total Turmspringen”: Annabelle Mandeng wins – good 16.7 percent for Stefan Raab’s water athletes
Surprise in “TV total Turmspringen” (high diving competition) on ProSieben: Annabelle Mandeng is the outstanding winner of Stefan Raab’s water extravaganza. In synchronised diving, the actress and presenter secured silver with diving partner Ilka Semmler. A very good 16.7 percent of the 14- to 49-year-old viewers followed her gold dive in the individual contest.
Mandeng’s victory was made possible by the greatest athlete of the night taking a risk. Star gymnast Fabian Hambüchen looked like the clear winner with top scores of up to 10.0 in the earlier dives, but then over-twisted in the dive he has never shown like this before, the forward three-and-a-half somersault from the three metre board, and had to settle with fourth place. Hambüchen: “I never wanted to just play it safe; I wanted to take a risk and give the audience something special. It didn’t work this time unfortunately, but I love this show and will be back next year.” “It’s the taking part that counts” is this year’s motto for Stefan Raab, the man who launched the high diving competition. Last year the ProSieben entertainer dove into sensational second place in synchronised diving with his partner Elton. This time the pair came in last, after a belly flop from Elton. Stefan Raab takes it with a sense of humour: “Elton has his difficulties with gravity. But really for him it’s not a physical problem, but a psychological one. We’ll give it another shot next year.”
