Christian Ulmen receives the Bavarian Television Award
A huge success for Christian Ulmen: last Friday, he received the Bavarian Television Award for his role as Dr. Max Munzl in the BRAINPOOL production "Dr. Psycho – The Baddies, The Pigs, My Wife And Me". In the "Series and Serials" category, he pipped rivals Edgar Selge ("Polizeiruf 110 – Er sollte tot" and "Polizeiruf 110 - Taubers Angst") and Roeland Wissnekker ("Black out") at the post. Award presenter Christoph Maria Herbst, who received the "Blue Panther" in 2005 for "Stromberg", was thrilled for Christian Ulmen. The award for the best actress went to Saskia Vester for her role in the series "KDD - Kriminaldauerdienst".
The Bavarian Television Award was been awarded since 1989 by the Bavarian State Government for outstanding efforts in German television. The award symbol is the "Blue Panther". This year was the first time awards were presented in five categories: information shows, television movies, series and serials, entertainment programs as well as cultural and educational offerings.
"Dr. Psycho" is all about police psychologist Dr. Max Munzl (Christian Ulmen), who is pretty much out of his depth at the Special Organized Crime Unit. This tough unit lacks staff and equipment, but it seems to have the cash for the "Psycho Muppet"! To this end, Max has a tough time from the outset, particularly as he not only has his own ideas for fighting crime, but also considers his colleagues especially in need of therapy: Hendricks (Ulrich Gebauer), the smart head of the Special Organized Crime Unit, is about as warm-hearted as a freezer. In the course of her police career, Kerstin (Anneke Kim Sarnau) has almost forgotten that she is a woman. Eddie (Hinnerk Schönemann) may not be very bright, but he has a very explosive character. And Victor (Roeland Wiesnekker) has an alcohol problem. While the Special Organized Crime Unit does everything in its power to get rid of their “Psycho” as quickly as they possibly can, Max is desperate to make his mark as a police officer. Not a simple feat considering his wife, Lena (Annika Kuhl), wants to separate from him. Just as well that his dog, Freud, is usually faithful to him.
Season 1 of "Dr. Psycho" was broadcast between March 26 and May 7, 2007, every Monday at 9:15 p.m. on ProSieben. Shooting for Season 2 of "Dr. Psycho" will start this year.
