Eurovision Song Contest 2012

Following the spectacular success of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf, this year’s event took place between May 22nd and 26th in Baku (Azerbaijan). BRAINPOOL TV was the official production partner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 for the broadcasting Azerbaijani television station ICTIMAI TV, which Brainpool supported in the fields of design and show production, as well as technical execution.

Adil Karimli, Executive Producer of the Eurovision Song Contest 2012: “Our decision to work with Brainpool was based on hard facts. Brainpool did a fantastic job during the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf. Brainpool is a leading partner and supports us in the development and production of the show and in all technical aspects.”

With his song “Standing Still”, the winner of the German preliminary round “Unser Star für Baku” (Our Star for Baku), Roman Lob, was a huge hit at the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 on May 26th. Roman Lob demonstrated his exceptional talent yet again, captivating the audience against strong competition. At the end, Loreen from Sweden won the music contest with the song “Euphoria”, ahead of Buranowskije Babuschki from Russia and Zeljko Joksimovic from Serbia. This means that the 58th Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Sweden.

The grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest enthralled TV audiences again this year: more than 8.29 million viewers in Germany alone (43.6% market share among 14-49 year olds) and 120 million viewers around the world tuned in to watch the major international song contest. Das Erste broadcast the event live, where Roman Lob performed for Germany with “Standing Still”, a song penned by Jamie Cullum, Wayne Hector and Steve Robson, and reached a magnificent eighth place. This was the third time in a row that Germany made the top ten in the world’s largest music contest.

The 20 nations were able to qualify from among all the applicants beforehand in two exciting semi-finals, and then went on to the grand final to face the candidates from the “Big 5” (Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy and Spain) and Azerbaijan as the host.
