TV total on Ice

It’s not easy to lead Stefan Raab onto thin ice. But when Claudia Pechstein, Germany’s most successful Winter Olympics athlete of all time, challenged him to a speed-skating duel in his show, he immediately accepted. On April 4, 2002, the entertainer lined up live in Berlin for "TV total on Ice".

Over 5000 spectators experienced a first-class sports event with the final between Stefan Raab and the Olympic Gold medalist speed skater Claudia Pechstein at Berlin’s sold-out "Wellblechpalast", with approximately 4 million viewers tuning in to watch the gripping short-track race at home. With a sensational lunge across the finishing line, Stefan Raab won the speed skating duel of the year.
With the previously agreed head start of 900 m, Raab succeeded in keeping the professional sportswoman at bay along the 3000-meter course. Despite his falling on the final lap, Claudia Pechstein was unable to overtake her rival.

The sports highlight was accompanied by a spectacular show act:
The ProSieben All-Stars, including Erkan & Stefan, Hendrik Hey and Tobi Schlegel, played ice hockey against the "Berliner Eisbären" youth team and the "Young Capitals Berlin". Although Stefan Raab surprisingly joined the ProSieben team, the youngsters were able to win on the day.
The competitors were musically supported by the "Toten Hosen".
The grand live ice event was presented by Oliver Welke and Franziska Schenk, with René Hiepen providing the race commentary.
